Statement of Intent
Soccer Mania Holiday Camp is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all children, staff, volunteers and visitors.
The welfare of children is our highest priority, and effective health and safety management is central to achieving this.
Scope
This policy applies to:
- All staff and volunteers
- All children attending the camp
- HAF programme participants
- Contractors and visitors
- All venues used by Soccer Mania
Responsibilities
The Camp Director/Manager is responsible for:
- Overall health and safety compliance.
- Ensuring risk assessments are completed and reviewed.
- Ensuring staff are aware of emergency procedures.
- Ensuring adequate first aid provision.
- Maintaining appropriate insurance cover.
- Recording and investigating incidents and accidents.
Staff and Volunteers
All staff and volunteers must:
- Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others.
- Follow risk assessments and safety procedures.
- Supervise children appropriately at all times.
- Report hazards, accidents or concerns immediately.
- Use equipment safely and appropriately.
Children
Children are encouraged to:
- Follow instructions from staff.
- Use equipment appropriately.
- Report any injuries or hazards to a member of staff.
Risk Assessments
Soccer Mania will carry out risk assessments for:
- Each venue used.
- Sports and physical activities.
- Use of equipment.
- HAF food distribution (where applicable).
- Trips or special events (if applicable).
Risk assessments will:
- Identify hazards.
- Evaluate risks.
- Outline control measures.
- Be reviewed regularly and after any significant incident.
Supervision
Appropriate staff-to-child ratios will be maintained in line with safeguarding and good practice guidance.
Children will:
- Be supervised at all times during activities.
- Not be left unattended.
- Be signed in and out by a responsible adult unless otherwise agreed.
- Clear procedures will be in place for late collection.
First Aid
Soccer Mania will ensure:
- At least one suitably trained first aider is present at all times.
- A fully stocked first aid kit is available on site.
- All injuries are recorded in an accident book.
- Parents/carers are informed of significant injuries.
In the event of a serious injury:
- Emergency services will be contacted immediately.
- Parents/carers will be informed as soon as possible.
- An incident report will be completed.
Accident Reporting
All accidents, incidents and near misses will be:
- Recorded promptly.
- Reviewed by the Camp Manager.
- Investigated where necessary.
Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures
For each venue, staff will:
- Identify fire exits and assembly points.
- Ensure exits remain clear at all times.
In the event of a fire:
1. Evacuate immediately.
2. Assemble at the designated assembly point.
3. Conduct a register check.
4. Contact emergency services if required.
Fire drills will be carried out where practical.
Facilities and Equipment
Soccer Mania will:
- Conduct daily visual checks of playing areas and equipment.
- Remove damaged or unsafe equipment from use.
- Ensure portable goals are properly secured.
- Maintain safe storage of equipment.
Any defects in hired facilities will be reported to the venue provider.
Safeguarding and Health & Safety
Health and safety and safeguarding are closely linked. Staff will:
- Maintain safe supervision at all times.
- Ensure safe collection procedures.
- Follow the Safeguarding Policy if concerns arise.
Insurance
Soccer Mania maintains appropriate public liability insurance and employer’s liability insurance.
Policy Review
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if:
* Legislation changes.
* An incident highlights the need for revision.
* Camp operations change.
